My Story

I understand the challenges you are going through because I went through it myself.   I went through many years of severe chronic pain, fatigue, insomnia, and digestive problems. At first I saw as many as 20 different doctors, only to be disappointed at the solutions they were offering me.  I knew instinctively that drugs  and invasive procedures were not the answer to my problems.

Searching for the Root Cause

I was determined to not give up, so I poured myself into learning how to get better and eventually found practitioners who treated me after thinking through the underlying cause of my illness. They helped treat fatigue, gut dysbiosis (SIBO, Candida), and a myriad of other symptoms stemming from exposure to mold (CIRS).

No matter the diagnosis, I discovered that so much healing was possible through the choices I was making about my diet, lifestyle, mindset, and my environment. It was empowering to learn that I had control over the outcome of my health!

I learned that in order to get better, I had to do my part.  Sometimes it felt like one step forward, three steps back. Taking things one baby step at a time, I started by adding in as much nutrient dense foods as I could to fuel my body. Over time I incorporated other lifestyle changes to reduce stress and get better sleep. Things eventually got easier, and I was empowered to keep going.  I am still a work in progress but I've come a long way and have found the energy and joy to do the things I love.

Changing my Mindset

I also learned how important it is to have a mindset of hope. I realized I was wrapped up in fear and anxiety, even dread over dealing with a chronic, complex illness. I was in survival mode and was finding it difficult to keep up with a very basic to do list. I finally got tired of chasing my symptoms and found myself having to step back and look at the bigger picture of where I was, physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Once I became aware of how negative my thinking had become, I was motivated to change and started finding ways to intentionally focus on the positive. What healing is possible?

These statements helped me to start thinking differently:

"All my problems have solutions"

"Embrace change"

"Be comfortable with the uncomfortable."

"Its temporary..this too shall pass"

"God designed the body to heal"

"Trust that it's going to be okay"

"Think greater than you feel"

With a new outlook I felt mentally stronger to be able to handle daily challenges, and eventually I started to feel better physically too. How much the mind and body are related!

My Training

Eventually I enrolled in the ADAPT Functional Health Coach Training program through the Kresser Institute.  Through this program I've learned how to help people strategize plans to successfully meet their health and life related goals.  Training in functional health adds the understanding of how diet, lifestyle and behavior change can prevent or reverse disease, backed by science.  I am passionate about empowering people to educate themselves about healing from chronic conditions.

I also have a Master's in Occupational Therapy from the University of Southern California, and have worked in hospitals, nursing homes, and group homes.  As an occupational therapist, my focus is on wellness and prevention through optimizing everyday activities or "occupations."

With this medical background, as well as the experience of being a long time patient myself, I know what it feels like to be managing symptoms and I want to support you to advocate for your own health and well being.

I empathize with you and have respect for all of you fighting to get solutions to your health problems.

DON'T GIVE UP.

And most of all, know that the body was designed to heal.
